Listening Before Leading

Leaders often feel pressure to act quickly. But lasting change begins with listening.

When leaders listen deeply — to God, to their community, to those who’ve left — they gain insight that can’t come from a strategy meeting alone. Listening builds trust. Trust opens the door for transformation.

James offers this wisdom: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). Whether you’re a pastor, ministry leader, or faithful member, slowing down to truly listen may be the most Christlike leadership move you make this year.

Call to Action: Practice one intentional moment of listening this week — ask someone about their experience in church and listen without interruption.
