Brokenness and the Power of the Gospel
What if the very weaknesses we wish would vanish are where God wants to show His power? The gospel transforms our brokenness into an opportunity for grace.
Post:
The Apostle Paul understood what it was like to face ongoing struggles. He described a mysterious “thorn in the flesh” that God chose not to remove (2 Corinthians 12:7-10). Instead of gaining relief, God gave Paul something better: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
This reminds us that God doesn’t always remove our struggles, but He always redeems them. Anxiety and weakness do not disqualify us from God’s work; they may be the very means through which we experience His strength most deeply.
The gospel states that our brokenness isn't something to hide but something through which God’s grace and peace can be shown.
Discussion Questions:
What does Paul’s “thorn in the flesh” teach us about how God uses ongoing struggles in our lives?
How does God’s response to Paul challenge our urge for quick solutions or total deliverance?
What does it mean for God’s power to be “made perfect” in weakness? Can you think of an example where this has been true in your life?
How does the gospel free us from shame by turning our brokenness into a testimony of grace?
Colossians 3:15 speaks of Christ’s peace dominating in our hearts. How might surrendering our anxieties to Christ open us to this peace, even if the struggle persists?
Prayer Prompt:
“Lord Jesus, thank You that Your grace is enough for every weakness we carry. Help us to stop hiding our brokenness and instead offer it to You. May Your power rest on us, and may Your peace rule in our hearts as we trust in You. Amen.”
