Listening as a Spiritual Practice

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is stop talking and listen.

Listening is more than hearing words — it’s making space for someone’s story, their pain, their dreams. “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). It’s saying, “You matter enough for me to set aside my agenda and just be here with you.”

In a noisy world, listening is a gift. And in secular spaces, it might be the most radical act of love we can offer.

Call to Action: Choose one person this week to truly listen to — without interrupting, advising, or fixing. Simply be present and hear their heart.
