The Family Likeness

Children of God - Now

John declares, “Now we are children of God” (1 John 3:2). This is not a future promise but a present reality. In the culture of John’s day, adoption meant full rights as an heir, chosen, loved, and secure. That’s what God says about us.

Identity Reframed

The world may not see it. Friends and culture may not acknowledge it. But your truest identity isn’t found in human voices. It’s rooted in what God says: “You are my child, and I love you.”

This love changes us to resemble Christ. As St. Irenaeus wrote, “He became as we are, so that we might become as He is.”

Living the Likeness

Knowing you are God’s child changes the way you live.

  • Confidence in belonging. No need to seek approval from others.

  • Freedom from labels. You are defined by God’s word, not society’s changing opinions.

  • Hope for transformation. The Spirit works daily to shape you into Christ’s image.

The Most Important Voice

In a time of identity confusion, God’s voice remains steady and sure. Likes don’t define you. Careers don’t define you. Even your failures don’t define you. Only your Father does.

Reflection Question:
Whose voice influences you more in defining who you are—the world’s or your Father’s?
