Why Did Jesus Die?

Human Reasons, Divine Purpose

From a human perspective, Jesus died due to betrayal, politics, and injustice. Religious leaders viewed Him as a threat. The Roman authorities desired peace. Soldiers carried out their orders.

But from God’s perspective, something much greater was in motion:

  • He died to bear our sins (1 Peter 2:24).

  • He died to reconcile us to God (Romans 5:10).

  • He died to defeat sin and death (Hebrews 2:14).

  • He died to demonstrate love (Romans 5:8).

Love in Action

The cross wasn’t an accident; it was an offering. Jesus said, “No one takes my life from me. I lay it down of my own accord” (John 10:18). Love, not force, kept Him there.

For You

When asked, “Why did Jesus die?” we can list many reasons. But ultimately, there is one answer that covers them all: He died for you.

Reflection Question:
What changes occur in your life when you live every day knowing, “Jesus died for me”?
