The Mystery of Listening Without Words

Dan Rather once asked Mother Teresa, “When you pray, what do you say to God?” She replied, “I don’t say anything, I listen.” Surprised, he asked, “Well, when God speaks to you, what does He say?” She smiled, “He doesn’t say anything. He listens. And if you don’t understand that, I can’t explain it to you.”

This is one of the mysteries of our faith: the deep connection that occurs in shared silence. In stillness, we are not seeking new revelations outside Scripture. Our only dependable source of God’s voice is the Bible. But in silence, the Holy Spirit takes what we already understand from Scripture and deepens it in our hearts, applying it to our lives in a way that transforms us.

Call to Action: Select one Scripture passage and sit quietly with it for 10 minutes, allowing the truth to soak in without rushing to act.
